As you all know, we are a corporate training company. And we work with inhouse and empanelled trainers day in and day out. All our trainers are well experienced and have trained thousands of participants before. But still, before every training programme, we make it a point to conduct a small train the trainer session for our trainers.
Importance of a Train the Trainer Session
Hmmm…Why do you think we do this? When the trainers already have so much of training experience, why do they need a train the trainer session before every training programme? Well, that’s because although the training topic might be the same, every programme is different. Every corporate training session has different participants with their own set of challenges. Hence, the approach and examples for each session are different.
It’s important that a trainer understands the participants’ background and context prior to a session. It helps in making the programme more relevant to the audience and giving examples that participants can relate to during the session. This also helps in increasing the buy in of the participants and eventually learning.
It also gives the trainer a sense of the participants understanding levels and which training methodologies will be most effective in getting through to the participants. Other than this, it is also important so that the trainer understands the organisation and its culture well.
However, such pre-session train the trainer sessions are quite underrated! And very often, trainers directly get into the training programme without the background knowledge in place. And this can be detrimental to the success of the programme.
Therefore, being one of the leading corporate training companies, we give utmost importance to our train the trainer sessions. We know that for delivering quality programmes, trainers should be given quality training too. Its only then they can do justice to the programmes that they deliver.
What do you think? Are such train the trainer sessions important according to you?
