Goal setting workshop

I have seen people wonder why goal setting workshops are needed. As per them, what is there to teach in how to set goals. You just set them. At the most, you write them on a post-it and put them up on the wall or board in front of you. Right?

Do you think in a similar way? Do you also wonder what the purpose of goal setting workshops really is? Well, if you do, this article is for specially you!

The Benefits of Goal Setting

It has been proved over time, that simply having a goal in mind and setting a proper goal gives different results. Setting a goal in the right way increases its chances of achievement multiple times. When you set goals, yes, the first step is to write it down and put it up on the wall. However, setting a goal entails a lot more than just that. Have you ever heard of SMART goals?

SMART is an acronym for how your goals should be. It should be Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time bound. These words are self-explanatory but just to give you a brief about each of them;

Specific

Be clear on what you want to accomplish and why.

Measurable

You should be able to track your progress in terms of how much you have achieved and how will you know it is accomplished.

Achievable

Your goal should be realistic and attainable. It can be a bit stretched but not too much that it’s impossible to achieve.

Relevant

The goal should be something that matters to you and is in line with your general life objectives. Also, looking if this is the right time to go after it and if you are the right person for it.

And finally, the topic of the article.

Time-Bound

Having a deadline for your goal. By when you want to achieve this goal of yours.

So, do you think it’s important to have a deadline attached to your goals? That is the question we are to answer today, right? Well, I’m going to answer this with one simple example. Have you ever participated in a race? If you have, how would you feel if there was no finish line to that race? It would just go on and on, you would not know when to stop. There would be no point running the race and most importantly, there would be no sense of accomplishment! Do you agree? And that’s exactly what happens to goals without a deadline. They never see the light of the day as you don’t tend to get round to doing them. Its rather like studying. We land up postponing it till we don’t have an exam on our heads! And therefore getting the pleasure of fulfilling our goals also becomes a distant reality!
